🍄 How to Make an Adorable Mushroom Cottage from a Toilet Paper Roll
Looking for a whimsical, easy craft to brighten your day? Turn an ordinary toilet paper roll into a charming mushroom cottage with a touch of cottagecore magic! 🌿
It all started when I found myself holding a cardboard tube, wondering what it could become… and the idea of a cute little mushroom popped into my mind! As I started painting, it turned into something even more delightful—an enchanted woodland home straight from a storybook.

This is a perfect quick craft—great for kids, fall décor, or anyone who loves a cozy DIY project. Best of all? It takes just 30 minutes or less!
🛠️ What You’ll Need:
1 Toilet paper roll
Scissors ✂️
Paint (acrylic works best!)
Paintbrushes
Optional: white paper or parchment (for glowing windows)
Optional: battery-powered tealight
🎨 Let’s Make a Mushroom Cottage!
Step 1: Shape the MushroomFlatten your toilet paper roll slightly and sketch out a mushroom silhouette—rounded top, slim bottom. Carefully cut it out. You can keep it standing by leaving a flat bottom or snipping little slits to make it more stable.

Step 2: Paint Your Mushroom
Paint the mushroom cap in your favorite color (classic red with white dots is always a winner!) and the stem a soft beige or white. Let it dry completely before adding details.

Step 3: Add Doors & Windows
Paint your door and windows! I started by filling the window spaces with white, then outlined them with brown for a cozy, rustic look. Add crossbars, doorknobs, vines—whatever your fairy-tale heart desires.

Step 4: Add Final Details
Give your mushroom cottage character! Add ivy, stepping stones, flower boxes, or even a tiny mailbox! The more personal touches, the more magical it becomes.

Step 5: Show it Off!

🌟 Bonus Idea: Make It Glow!
Okay… hear me out. What if your little mushroom cottage lit up from the inside? ✨Here’s how to do it:
Cut out the windows instead of just painting them.
Tape a piece of white or parchment paper behind each window to diffuse the light.
Place a battery-operated tealight inside the roll.Ta-da! A cozy, glowing mushroom home straight out of a forest fairy tale. 🕯️🍂
I haven’t had the chance to test this yet, but I’m excited to try it soon—if you beat me to it, please send pics! I’d love to feature your version on the blog or social media.

🧚♀️ Final Thoughts
This little mushroom cottage may have started with a simple cardboard tube, but it’s proof that magic lives in the everyday. Whether you're crafting with kids or adding some woodland whimsy to your fall décor, this project is sure to bring a smile to your face.
